1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure

Overview

Maintaining healthy blood pressure is a vital component of cardiovascular health. Untreated high blood pressure puts adults at high risk for stroke and heart attack. Unfortunately, approximately 78 million Americans–one in three adults–have high blood pressure. And only half of these individuals have their condition under control.

Education andsupport can help millions of Americans avoid the serious and often fatalconsequences of high blood pressure. That’s why the Ad Council, in partnership with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, launched a public service advertising campaign to increase awareness of the debilitating, potentially fatal consequences of living with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

The multimedia campaign, created by UWG, includes television, radio, print and web PSAs. They depict a personified human heart, fed up with the pressure it has to endure, delivering an ultimatum to the person living with high blood pressure: Take steps to improve your health or I will quit.

Viewers are then encouraged to get their own blood pressure under control and directed to Heart.org/BloodPressure to learn how to take healthy steps to get there.
